The trial, which is currently being piloted in three surgeries across Devon and Cornwall, has already reviewed over 1,500 moles and lesions since March 2024, helping cut hospital referrals by 50%.

Patients receive our lens by post, allowing them to photograph moles or lesions with their mobile phone. The photos and questionnaire answers are uploaded to the Map My Mole app, where consultants can assess them and provide results within days. This process has greatly reduced GP referral time and is freeing up valuable resources in healthcare.

The trial is running at Friary House in Plymouth, Ruby Country Medical Group's Stratton surgery, and Ruby Country Medical Group's Holsworthy surgery. Since launching the app in September 2023, Map My Mole has been adopted by 915 private clinics across the UK.

Our product aligns with NHS goals to reduce hospital visits and deliver care closer to home, with the potential to free up tens of thousands of appointments. Dr. Toby Nelson hopes the success of the trial will encourage wider adoption across the NHS.
